How to Clue EBCD
« on: January 12, 2009, 12:57:54 PM »
Can anyone think of a good way to clue EBCD? The best thing I can think of is to say something like "anagram of 2-5 of 26" or something like that. Unfortunately, I can't change the E to an A. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
B.

That's a tough one indeed.

Mi Ti Do Re are the 'solmizations' of the 5th, 7th, 1st, and 2nd tones (EBCD) of the C major scale...so perhaps 'Mi Ti Do Re of sharpless/flatless major scale'...bit of a mouthful but if you're stuck it might do :-\

Balder- no editor is going to accept EBCD as an entry. You have no choice but to come up with another 4 letter word or change the E to an A. You say you can't do this... Sorry, there's no alternatives. If you're not prepared to redo a section of the puzzle, large as that area may be, the puzzle would probably be unpublishable.

It is quite common for constructors to have to do extensive rework. Don't sweat it.

If you think its worth a shot, maybe you can post a 'screenshot' of that part of the grid...maybe somebody will see a way out.

If it's not too late, I may have come up with something reasonable...

This is a bit technical. How about :

Character code out of chips ( EBCDIC - IC )

Balder --

I agree with the post above that you need to get rid of EBCD.  It won't fly with an editor, no matter how you clue it.  Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Well, I understand that there's no good way to clue it, but luckily (?) my theme probably wouldn't get published anyway. But thanks for all the help, everyone!

I use this new Crossword Phrase Dictionary, and it has really helped me a lot in these types of situations.
