Sending submissions questions
« on: February 06, 2019, 12:28:14 PM »
Hello,

Two questions:

1. The LA Times spec sheet says send no more than two puzzles at a time. Is this the norm for other publications as well?
2. If you send a hard copy (i.e., to NYT), do you wait for a reply to send more? I assume you do, but thought I'd check.

Thanks for any insight.

I’m interested to know this as well.

Right now, I’ve got four puzzles sent in to the NYT, without having heard back yet. Honestly, it never occurred to me that there might be a limit. Now that I think about it, however, I could see where they wouldn’t want you to just deluge them with whatever crap you can throw together in hopes that something “sticks.” Quality over quantity, and all that.

Be guided by the publisher's specs. If they want to limit the number of puzzles you send, they'll tell you so. NYT and LAT both take weeks to reply, so send all you think they might want to use.

Thank you. Would you recommend sending a bunch at once, or two per envelope, spread out through out the week (that is, if not specified in the spec sheet)?

Oh, I'd space them out, because if they're all approved they will be spaced out anyway, and I'd be sure to first send the one that I though had the best chance of approval . . .
