Where else can I get better Crossfire dictionary?
« on: December 26, 2018, 10:07:39 AM »

Sorry if this subject is kinda... rude. I don’t mean it to be. Let me know if it is.

I’m a total noob to constructing. I’m trying to get a puzzle finished for my dad. I was hoping it would be a Christmas present. Now I hope to have it done before this weekend. He’ll get a big kick out of it.

I got Crossfire and managed to get pretty far with it. The puzzle is 15x15, with our family name and then a bunch of people in our family as theme. It looks to my untrained eye to be pretty fillable (I have done a lot of crossword puzzle in my time), but Crossfire says “Unfillable Grid” no matter what I do to try to help it. I did manage to get it partially filled by helping it along, but now I’m stuck.

It really appears that the default dictionary just isn’t good enough. So, last Thursday, I came here to get a better dictionary. Made my donation, but it’s just not happening. No gold membership for me. All attempts at communication are ignored. So, finally, to my question:

Is there some other place on the web I can get a better dictionary? Am I barking up the wrong tree? If I can’t fill with the default Crossfire dictionary, is it likely that a better dictionary will give the same “Unfillable Grid” result?

Thanks for any help!

https://www.xwordinfo.com/Levels This site has an excellent wordlist available to premium members.

https://www.cruciverb.com/data.php?op=wordlists the ALL wordlist here is also good, but if you're having trouble with your membership you may not be able to access it.

If you'll email me at mcclain.salem@gmail.com, I may be able to help you a bit more.

I got my gold membership! Yay!

The puzzle is complete. It really was down to the CrossFire default dictionary not being up to the task. Using the puzzle database here was a breeze and quite fun.
