THEME:   three movies which take place on deserted islands

GOOD ONES:
With 44-Down {theme}   DESERT (and) ISLAND
Traffic controller   CONE [guess it's low tech]
Smallish cells   AA'S [I thought bodily or monastic before batteries]

BTW:
They raise dough   YEASTS [good if you're a street hood and use dough to mean money, but the rest of us raise capital or raise money]

Words that may precede weeping?   READ EM[the phrase is "read em and weep" but there never is weeping]

Has a date   GOES OUT [then the clue should be "Has dates"]

IANA is an aletrnate for the usual suffix -ana.

SLINGS as baby carriers is good, but I'd have preferred a Hamlet quotation to preserve our common ("Ay, Madam, 'tis common") literary culture.  Instead, we get NAS, REI, and ESO.

RATING: ;D ;D
Three grins = Loved it; Two grins = Enjoyed it; One grin = A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = Not much fun
