THEME:   two-word phrases beginning with J & V, respectively

GOOD ONES:
Music channel host {& theme}   VIDEO-JOCKEY [known as a V.J.]

BTW:
SPIT-TAKE is a new one for me; wonder if Jay Leno ever heard of it.  The "take" part refers to a reaction to a joke, usuallly by the straigtman.  The "spit" obviously refers to the seltzer being sprayed, and sounds like a deli shortcut for seltzer.  Someone like Milton Berle or Jack Carter, or even The Marx Bros., would likely have known this inside term.

ACER is not a word, and ELA is Portuguese only.  Neither belongs in an American crossword puzzle as clued.  Acer is a computer company, however.

RATING: ;D
Three grins = Loved it; Two grins = Enjoyed it; One grin = A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = Not much fun
