THEME:   last word of phrase can follow (trail) PAPER

GOOD ONES:
What auditors look for {and theme}   PAPER-TRAIL
Pound of poetry   EZRA [oldie but goodie]
Render powerless?   UNPLUG
Sporting footwear   SHOD [naturally I thought sneakers, etc.]

BTW:
Like marbled meat   FATTY [I see a qualitative difference between marbled meat and fatty meat.  I might go with "Arbuckle" or even "dieter, maybe."]

Wonder why damask is not spelled damasc.

RATING:    ;D ;D
Three grins = Loved it; Two grins = Enjoyed it; One grin = A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = Not much fun
