Prove wrong   REFUTE [Refute is an interesting term, denotatively as clue says, but since my school days in mid-century, the term has come to mean “deny by argument,” not prove wrong.  But my teachers bridled at the change, and rightly, because now when it’s used, the listener doesn’t know which sense is meant.  “He refuted the claim” can now mean he proved it wrong or it can mean he simply leveled an argument, not necessarily dispositive, against it.  ... Well, it was interesting to me.]

RATING:   ;D Three grins = Loved it; Two grins = Enjoyed it; One grin = A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = No fun
