Lab sounds   ARFS [if you do enough of these you know it’s the dog not workplace]
Where to get a date   PALM [ditto concept]

By the Way:
I’m not a big fan of themeless puzzles, but this one is particularly good: challenging, varied, and smart.  And I couldn’t believe that U.S. stamps were first issued under Polk.  Wonder what took so long.
