New iPadOS issue opening PUZ files

Before the update, if you opened crucifers, went to the LA Times Archive, and clicked on a puzzle file in the LA Times calendar, it would open in AcrossLite.  After the update, the only option is to “download’ the file, and then you have to open Files, open the downloaded file, click the arrow as if forwarding it, and select transfer to AcrossLite.  Painful!  Does anyone know how to get the old “direct” method working again?
