Clue validity

Hi. Would "Throw under the bus" be an acceptable clue for SELL DOWN THE RIVER? I ask because both the clue and answer contain the word "the." I know that "the" is just an article. But still. Any feedback or thoughts would be much appreciated.

I'd try to avoid it. You've got the repeated THE which is inelegant, and also the term "sell down the river" has negative connotations since its source is related to slave trade.
