Has anyone got these to work using the iPad version of across lite? I made the text file on my computer but it won’t load in the app. The ones that are on the archive seem to be a binary format.

Copy and paste the puzzle source to a text file on your PC as you've been doing. Open the file with AcrossLite on your PC, and save it locally as a .puz.  Then email that file to yourself - it will open fine on your iPad.

Thanks!  Just what I needed, too.

I can’t get this to work.  I copy into a .txt file on my. iPad but acrosslite does not come up as an option when I click on the .txt file in my iPads file section.  I am using the free version.  Any suggestions?

For Tshaner's question:

I think the iPad version of Across Lite can only open .puz files.  For this reason you need to do the preprocessing on your machine running MacOS, Windows, or Linux.

Copy the puzzle source to a text file there, right/context click, and select "open with". Among the choices you should see Across Lite. Once the puzzle opens, use "save" to create the .puz format locally.  Then use email or other transfer methods to get the .puz file to your iPad where it should open fine.

This is a lot easier to do than to describe!

Finally got this to work when I gave up on the ipad.  Just for grins...why don't we just post the .puz file?  Any legal restrictions?

That's kind of the concern for posting .puz from my end.   There's no attachment capability here, so posting PUZ would require uploading to another host.  Technically, that would make whoever would do that into another distributor, which might run into legal issues.  There's always the possibility of getting permission, but the distributor would have to abide with whatever the limitations are (like keeping 7-10 days worth, pay some money, etc).  We don't even know the requirements cruciverb is placed under.  The question of permission would be sketchy in general and probably involve a lot more fuss than necessary, IMO.  At least in posting the text versions to the forum, one can still argue that it's "cruciverb.com" distributing them instead of someone else since the text resides on their server.

Can't say I know how "on-base" I am in thinking like this.  I could throw PUZ up on my dropbox pretty easily and link here, so it's not much a technical issue as a legal question I don't know the answer to.
