Obscure word or pop culture reference?

(1/1)

Raymond Hansen:
I was going to put "glamper" as a non-theme word in a grid. In Colorado, this word is used frequently to refer to someone who camps, but with luxury (hardly roughing it). Goolgle has 23,200,000 hits for "glamping," but only 1,210,000 for "glamper." Too obscure for an early-week grid, or fun pop culture reference?

OK, here's a novel idea for you, which I've done a couple of time. Go ahead and finish out the puzzle with GLAMPER in it, clues and all. Then, go back and take it out and redo the section where it was. Clue it, and now you've got two versions of the puzzle to present to the editor! Sure, you'll be doing some extra work, but it sends the message that you know this is an iffy entry (but maybe perfectly OK), and you respect the editor's judgment about whether to use it or not.

Raymond Hansen:
Thanks! Great idea.
