THEME:   last words of phrases begin with synonyms of terminus
Director's cry {& theme}   THAT'S A WRAP
It's heedless to go off it   THE DEEP END [heedless suggests a prior warning, but going off the deep end is simply losing control, heedless or not]
Family nicknames   MAMMAS [as I said a month or so ago: mama and papa, etc. are names, not nicknames like Stretch or Shorty.
Pre-college, for short   ELHI [as I said a month or so ago: I don't believe this term really exists in print --- it didn't when I was in the business, admittedly in the last century]
Sings like Ella   SCATS [too bad a great singer will be known forever in Xwords for her scat --- a silly jazz style that went the way of the zoot suit.  {If you are a devotee of pop music from the 1930's to the 1980's, you can go to and select "On Pop Songs."  Actual recordings can be played along with text.}
Cry of surprise   YOWZAH [it's more a cry expressing Wow!  It probably comes from "Yes, Sir!" and was used by hep cats in the 20's]
Three grins = Loved it; Two grins = Enjoyed it; One grin = A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = Not much fun
