THEME:   none, but only 28 blocks
   
GOOD ONES:    
Heavenly approach?   STAIRWAY [Led Zeppelin, e.g.]   
They may be found in board examinations   WARPS [as in wooden boards]   
Record holder   SLEEVE [wonder if there are solvers too young to remember them]   
Turnoffs   EXITLANES   
Dress with a flare   ALINE [not flair]

BTW:
I'm not a fan of themeless puzzles, but they don't seem to get any better than this.
