It appears the LAT editors this week have abandoned their foray into easy and pedestrian puzzles in favor of more challenging ones. I hope they include clever along with challenging.
At 21 Across we get "Like the healthiest corned beef." The way I read it, the corned beef is healthy. There was a time, but it appears past, that the beef was healthful because it crontribted to one's being healthy. Even health industry ads have abandoned the distinction. I suspect this is the end of Western Civilization, but perhaps I am just a bit too much vested in my learning. :'(
