Hi all,
   Does anyone know whether 'uremic' would cut muster in a puzzle for the NYT?

Hey Bill,

That is a pretty giant NO. Even if the word were marginally acceptable, which it isn't, why would you want it in your puzzle in the first place? It's a very rare, specialized medical term that really isn't at all interesting for solvers. UREMIC is the kind of entry where if it's literally the only available word that will allow you to fill properly, you must backtrack out to the point where you no longer need to include it. Thanks very much---I really appreciate it. Out it goes! I didn't really want it in there at all, but it's all that wiould fit in a puzzle that's nearly finished, so, on the off-chance, it seemed best to check with the experts before I started backtracking.
