I'm wondering if there is any idea of how long the typical time is these days between a puzzle being accepted by the Times and being published. In this case, a themeless puzzle. Or whether it's mostly a crapshoot?

I think they have about 6 months in the queue. Will reports this every so often, but I haven't seen it in awhile.

I can't speak to themeless puzzles specifically, but I think the general backlog is more like 8-10 months. That's been my (limited) experience and it seems to align with what the authors on XWI say.
