Title: 21x21 grid for six long answers?
Post by: Fishbaum on January 02, 2020, 08:37:46 PM
I am trying to fit 6 long answers, horizontally, in a 21x21 grid. The letter counts need to be in this order:

20
21
19
19
20

Does such a grid exist? I'm having trouble putting one together.

No. The 21 needs to be on the center line for this theme set to be symmetrical.

I don't understand why the "21" has to be in the center. Also, did you forget the other "21"? You say there will be 6 entries; but only 5 are listed. If you add the other "21," perhaps there is a working grid?

That does make a difference if the other 21 is in 5th position. To be marketable, the theme entries need to be arranged symmetrically in the grid. So 20, 21, 19, 19, 21, 20 should be griddable.

Sorry, yes, I meant 5 answers. I ended up solving the problem by adjusting things to have 5 21-letter answers.
