Title: Long fill options
Post by: kwanjul on May 15, 2019, 02:14:58 PM
I have several options for 2 9-letter down entries and I thought I'd crowdsource for opinions. What do you think is the best option and why?

11D: CHILL PILL, LOCAL CALL, STEEL MILL, REBEL YELL, PARALLELS, AVAILABLE, FINAL SALE, SMALL TALK

33D: OYSTER BAR, OYSTER BED, HYPHENATE, HYGIENIST

There were plenty of other options in both cases. But I filtered out all the weird forms of regular words.

Thanks in advance!

The phrases generally are better than long words, for most venues. Informal or slangy phrases are more interesting. So

CHILL PILL, SMALL TALK

OYSTER BAR (OYSTER BED is also good, but not as "interesting" IMO)

The only one I would hesitate to use is REBEL YELL
