Title: Theme feedback
Post by: jtbthethird on January 23, 2019, 01:59:48 AM
I'm working on my first crossword, and figured I'd solicit some feedback on a theme idea before going too far with it. The general idea is a repeated word, but adding "S" in the middle. I've got a bunch of examples, but want to make sure the concept works:

LACKSSLACKS (dresses like Winnie the Pooh?)
CORNERSCORNER (one who prefers an oval office?)
WORDSWORD (literary weapon?)
LUMBERSLUMBER (nap in the forest?)
ALOONSALOON (where divers might meet for drinks?)
etc.

Thoughts? I'm not married to these clues or even these particular phrases. Would the success of the theme depend on the quality/consistency of the clues, or would straightforward/humorous cluing work for these?

Cute idea. Just in terms of consistency ALOONSALOON doesn't fit because of A LOON being two words (and arbitrarily so) while all the others are single words. WORDSWORD is a little weak because the two parts aren't the same pronunciation as the others.

I know I'm a little late to this thread, but for replacing ALOONSALOON, what about TRAINSTRAIN, WITCHSWITCH, or LEDGESLEDGE?

For replacing WORDSWORD, what about LATESLATE or HOCKSHOCK?
