Title: Capital letters
Post by: atco418 on June 24, 2017, 09:21:34 AM
Looking for some guidance.  I have a theme idea, but it requires the solver to use capital letters.  Answer grids are always published in caps (and it's how I do my solving), but is it a common or standard enough practice to expect the average solver to use them too?

Thanks!

Not really.  Depending on what the theme is, exactly, you might want to use circles or something like that to indicate whatever it is you want instead of the capital letters.  As for convention, capital or lower case shouldn't matter in the grid, and I honestly can't think of a case where it did.

I've seen puzzles that required uppercase to make sense. The solver needs to rotate a letter to make a different letter. For example, rotate the letter "N" ninety degrees to make a "Z".

Some contained a hint, some left it up to the solver to figure it out.
