Title: The Big Reveal
Post by: Marty on August 02, 2016, 01:35:39 PM
Greetings,

I have been working on several puzzles in an attempt to get one accepted by the NYT. The feedback I am getting ranges from "Too straightforward" to "Did not excite Will enough".

I am seeking some advice on ways to improve or generate a reveal in a way that creates that "aha" moment.

Thanks,

Marty

Grid and theme are very important, but I believe that well-built clues could upgrade every possible crossword. You could look for ideas for good clues examples on crossword clues database (http://www.globalclue.com/) or on other crossword websites. I'll explain my idea: For answer ALOE - the clue may be 1) Lotion ingredient or 2) 'The potted physician' or 3) What a Muslim, returning from Mecca, hangs above the door. I hope it helps.
