Title: Sat., 5/18 Julian Lim
Post by: magus on May 18, 2013, 09:31:58 AM
THEME:    34 blocks, more than usual for a themeless Saturday

GOOD ONES:
Love letters?   XOXO
Slaughter with a bat   ENOS [he was a baseball player]
Treadmill settings   GYMS [and I thought a dial on the machine --- one of which I have never actually seen]

BTW:
Single ELIM   [I need to see it to believe it.]

Way to spread the green   SEEDAGE [ditto]

Old in Oldenburg   ALTE [good clue; too bad the answer is not in English]

Miercoles, por ejemplo  DIA  [I appreciate the entire clue is in Spanish, but we just don't use any other word for Wednesday, ever.]

Where fliers walk   AISLE  [I guess its airplane passengers]

Re: Timon of Athens quote    HAP   [one of the 37 I never read, but what about that line is memorable? ("Alas!" or "Zounds!" seem its equal.)  Thomas Hardy did, however, write a good poem called "Hap."

I was happy to see references to traditional culture as well as "TRICKED-OUT in "'Bling'."

RATING:  ;D ;D
Three grins = Loved it; Two grins = Enjoyed it; One grin = A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = Not much fun
