Title: Problem with Crosserville Clues: "No dupes found"
Post by: John R. Conrad on May 17, 2025, 03:39:05 PM
I am a relative newcomer to Crosserville, but previously used Crossword Constructor and have published eight crosswords in the NY Times Crosswords.

My problem is this: All of sudden, when I asked to "Check for dupes" in a fully clued 21x21 it says "No dupes found" but there are many dupes there. It is doing this even with older puzzles, that previously showed dupes fine. I have tried clearing caches and history, rebooting, etc. Any ideas?

I've seen odd behavior like that before when a browser update or a site update affected the clue-analysis tools. Since it's happening with older puzzles that previously worked, it sounds less like a puzzle-specific issue and more like something in Crosserville itself.

A couple of things I'd try: test the same puzzle in a different browser, and if possible create a very small puzzle with an obvious duplicate clue to see whether the checker catches it. That can help determine whether the issue is global or tied to a specific file. If those tests also return "No dupes found," it may be worth reporting it directly to the developers as a possible bug.
