Thanks, Eric. I see that you are correct, and that was what the constructor was after.
However, there is a comma in the clue. The clue says that the word case is an instance of something --- what that something is is left to the solver to discover. To state correctly the intent of the constructor, it would be necessary to eliminate the comma to allow the clue to mean "case (substituted) for instance" is an example of synonym usage.
