Looks like the NYT has tweaked their archive and it no longer offers .puz format as a download option, just the PDF. Anyone know if campthat's deliberate, permanent, or what? I pay for that subscription and I'm not a happy camper!

There have been several threads on Facebook groups about this. Yes, NYT has discontinued the PUZ version. It is deliberate.

The announcement: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/02/crosswords/nyt-games-no-longer-available-on-across-lite-as-of-aug-9.html

I'm disappointed because I find the AL printouts render better than the ones generated by their in-house code. And why they purged the archives is a mystery.

Looks like the only reason I had to subscribe to the NYT service when I get the money is gone.
-
At least the .PUZ download here on Cruciverb continues, deo gratias. I wonder how that works?

The editor explains it's supposed to make things easier for her "team" going forward. But this doesn't explain eliminating it from the entire NYT word archive back to 1995. THEY'RE ALREADY FORMATTED in .PUZ!!! How is that a burden to anyone? I love being able to go back and solve those, a historical exercise as well as a gaming one. For years I've been doing that. Now it's gone for no apparent benefit to anyone. Unhappy subscriber here.
-
It's pretty obvious that they want you on their solving app, not an offline program. I think that's pretty much it.
-
Well now. I thought they would have saved the archive in formats other than Across Lite, but the icons are all grayed out, as far as I can tell. So, no historical record at all?

I am a little curious how cruciverb is still getting the NYT in .puz, but I don't want to jinx it.
