I know little about AOL, but are you certain their members are not referred to as AOLERS? As popular as AOL once was it makes sense they might have had a name to distinguish them from other ISP users. Of course, that doesn't mean the term really was ever used.
Having constructed 21x21's I know the temptation is great to stretch things a bit. If I were still constructing I'd say to myself something like "if there isn't such a word, there should be" and hope my editor buys it. Still, none of my past work contained any of these "cheats" though they did contain too many impossibly arcane words. Computers have helped make puzzles better in this regard.
