Has anybody had any luck with accessing this website: crosswordgiant.com   It used to be a great site for clues, answers, and help with themes. I used to use it years ago. If one googles crossword giant, it appears listing different ways to access info, so it looks like it's still working. But when I click on the site, the only message I get is "An error has occurred. If this error persists, contact webmaster@crosswordgiant.com" Has anybody tried to contact them? It was really a great site!

Do publishers generally prefer exclusive submissions, or is there more flexibility with puzzle submissions compared to other types of writing?

it seems they did.  The CNN crossword link I have pulls up an applet for LA Times Puzzles.

Thank you so much for bothering to answer. I did feel a little shaky about those 2 entries, but it helped to get another eye on
the issue. I think you are correct; and I'll just have to tear up a large section. Thanx for the "one lap" possible answer!

Hi,

I think that either one of these on their own is an issue. Together, not a chance of having the puzzle accepted. Neither entry has ever appeared in the cruciverb database, and that's not a good sign, especially for six-letter entries. For ONELAW, the closest I could find was ONELAP, which has appeared in the database 31 times. So, if you can possibly change ONELAW to ONELAP and somehow ditch EPULSE altogether, you're in a better place. I know it sucks to have to rework entire areas of a puzzle, but that's what you have to do.

General Discussion / Two unusual entries OK?
« Last post by cranberry44 on April 06, 2025, 11:09:25 AM »
I've completed a 21 X 21 themed puzzle; and although I've tried different approaches, I'm left with two unusual entries: "epulse," clued as "Electromagnetic rifle used in Starship Troopers universe." (Googling "epulse" almost always returns a trademark; but copilot AI says that "epulse" is not necessarily a trademark but "a measure of one pulse (burst), often used in laser or electrical systems." But that's not easy to find by googling. The other entry is "one law," which I have clued as "Theological movement associated with Messianic Judaism." If you have any other more simplified clues, please let me know. Or do you think these 2 entries would kill my chances of being accepted.

It’s definitely a tricky situation. Many publishers do have exclusivity rules during the review process, which can make it frustrating when the turnaround time is so long.

General Discussion / Re: Deciphering NYT rejection letters

OK thanks very much for the clarification. Feb 18 was just one of many I found with >72 words that I *thought* was un-themed - but thinking my definition of 'theme' was too narrow.

I've been doing the NYT crossword forever and thought I knew them inside and out...but I had no idea Tuesdays were always theme puzzles  (because I usually skip Monday and Tuesday...and usually Wednesday...)

Thanks for the quick reply -
