Hello!
I'm brainstorming theme entries, and I don't *think* they are quite strong enough. I would like any comments/ideas!
Theme 1: Related to disappearing
MAKE A GETAWAY (12)
AIRPLANE MODE (12)
DISAPPEARING ACT (15)
words I don't have a pair for:
VANISHING ACT (12)
INTO THIN AIR (11)
OFF THE GRID (10)
WITHOUT A TRACE (13)
Theme 2: A phrase where the third word ends in "ET", and ideally if the word without the ET was an animal. Potentials:
BITE THE BULL[ET] (11)
KICK THE BUCK[ET] (11)
DOWN THE GULL[ET] (11)
FLY THE MAGIC CARP[ET] (15)
no longer animals:
RIDE THE ROCK[ET] (11) <--motto of local transit system
PLAY THE TRUMP[ET] (12)
Thank you,
Kathy

I think theme 2 is cute and well executed (animals).

Like that second theme as well, though you're gonna need another 11 letter entry to make it work. How about trying a phrase with "TICKET" should fit nicely with the other three.
-
Thank you both.
Yeah ticket is a good idea!
-
No problem :) looking forward to how this theme turns out, its a great starting point.
-
I got no ideas how to clue them yet, but I'll dig around for ideas.
-
just keep at it, you'll find something to tie them together eventually.
-
If it helps...some more stretches than others.
???ET: MANET, OWLET, PUGET, RAMET
????ET: BASSET, BUCKET, BULLET, CARPET, COCKET, GULLET, JACKET, LIONET, PORKET, TICKET
?????ET: NYMPHET, ROBINET
??????ET: FALCONET, MARTINET, TOUCANET
It's really amazing how many words are out there that fit this theme, if you take out the provision that the part before the ET is an animal. Definitely a good theme possibility in a lot of ways.

Thanks Glenn!
I do like the words ending in ET that mean something non-animal related.

I did a puzzle with this theme awhile back. Tried to upload it here, but didn't seem to take. Find it here: http://crossword.info/mmcbs/Alien_Invasion - It appeared in one of my books and is also on Redstone Games app, in case any of you are fans of that venue.

Great puzzle, like the title, theme entries are down to earth while ET brings the end.

Very cool, I enjoyed the theme clues and how there is a literal meaning to them, like PENSION PLANET.
