Who knew?:
ALPS is a brand name.  I obviously have to get out more --- if not on a camping trip at least to Dick’s.

RATING:   ;D ;D ;D Three grins = Loved it; Two grins = Enjoyed it; One grin = A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = Not much fun

The story of Heidi took place in the Swiss ALPS.

rbe---

I had no idea what your comment meant as I am sure you had no idea what mine meant.  So I checked out the on-line version of the puzzle and found that my local newspaper (on which I solve the puzzles) had a different clue, something about equipment and an Alpine location.  In this case, the newspaper clue was much more inaccessible so I suppose the editor made a change that somehow was not made in the print version.  Anyway, I guess it's a matter of time before The Winston-Salem Journal will go digital, and I'll have to join the 21st Century.

rbe:
That explains it. I live in the Los Angeles area. It used to be that the Times print and on-line puzzles were identical on Monday through Saturday, but on Sunday they were different completely different puzzles. The Sunday puzzles must now be the same, as your comments from the print version match what I get on-line.
