THEME: last word of a phrase can describe DROP
GOOD ONES:
Painted setting…{& theme} BACKDROP [the words are literally in BACK of DROP]
Smith, to Abigail Adams MAIDEN NAME
BTW:
Spanish month MES [this messes up an otherwise flawless, if not terribly enjoyable, puzzle]
Repeated musical accompaniment RIFF [probably needs "at times" since riff usually means a single jazz run within a song]
RATING: ;D
Three grins = Loved it; Two grins = Enjoyed it; One grin = A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = Not much fun

This is a reply to this post and your post of yesterday. I have suspected for quite a while that this editor will accept puzzles from certain contributors without even examining them. Note that today's no fun puzzle and Sunday's boring and unimaginatively themed puzzle are by the same constructor. Often, when I see certain constructor's names I will work an archived puzzle instead.
