Title: What words are too crude for crosswords?
Post by: bjornjohann on August 10, 2022, 04:37:12 AM
Hello everyone! I am new to making crosswords and aim to get published by NYT by the end of the year. I have a puzzle I am fiddling with, but there is one answer I am worried with disqualify it. I have DAMNIT  filling in a tricky spot of the puzzle and I am worried it may be perceived as too crude. LSD and ASS are frequent words, as is DAMN, but what about this one? Borderline? Too far?

In general, what are your rules for identifying crude answers? Thanks!

Check with the web sites that publish details of crossword entries. Crosswordtracker.com, crosswordgiant.com are my favorites. Subsribers to this site have access to a great database of puzzles, xwordinfo.com has NYT puzzle database.
