Title: Crossing entries OK?
Post by: cranberry44 on June 13, 2022, 09:03:31 AM
In a 15 X15, "fiction" and "condition" cross at the second "i's." So I have 2 "tion" crossing each other. Is this a killer? I've tried correcting this, but, in the process, loose some of my really nice entries.

No, it's not a problem. The root words are not related, so it's irrelevant that they have the same endings.

Thanks, Mark. I thought perhaps the "looks alone" might be a problem.

There is certainly a case to be made that having similar words bunched together is not very elegant, so you are right to challenge yourself to avoid it, but in the real world of crossword publication I don't know of an editor that would require that to be changed.
