Title: Theme feedback
Post by: ZachBG on December 28, 2018, 02:40:34 PM
Hi folks. Brand new to constructing so I thought I'd ask if this theme idea is worth pursuing.

BORDERPOST (10) [Place to build a wall in the nation's capital?] (alternative: PARCELPOST)
SNOWGLOBE (9) [Bad weather in Beantown?]
MEALTIMES (9) [A bite in the Big Apple?]
SETTINGSUN (10) [(tk) in Charm City?] (alternative: NOONDAYSUN)

and the center revealer:
PAPERTRAILS (11)

I can also simplify it by taking out SETTINGSUN and putting PAPERTRAIL (10) as a revealer in the SE.

Any thoughts are welcome, and thanks!

Cluing the theme in this fashion doesn't work for me. As puns they just don't seem to make any sense. PARCEL POST definitely better than BORDER POST (which I don't think is "in the language"). PAPER TRAIL would be a fun reveal with the entries clued literally and the clue "Line that intersects the second part of the >>>> entries"

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense, and your comments sent me to a more productive set of clues and answers.

Here’s a new revision, clued for a Monday, probably:

PARCELPOST (10) [Budget delivery, in Washington]
MEALTIMES (9) [Lunch hours, in New York]
HERECOMESTHESUN (15) [Beatles tune, in Baltimore]
SNOWGLOBE (9) [Wintry knickknack, in Boston]
PAPERTRAIL (10) [What a financial detective might follow... or a line that leads through the ends of (tk)]

What do you think?
