Cru database maintenance

Who decides when an entry earns this rating:
"! = irregular entry (removed from word lists)"

And what "word lists" is this entry removed from?

As I look thru the database getting help with my next puzzle, I am continually amused and impressed with the minds that create these items.

That would be me. It affects the "nyt only" and "all puzzles" word lists that are available to gold members. If an answer is unusable in other puzzles (typically a letter-drop, or maybe a pun), then it doesn't get included in the word lists.
