Theme:  Had to think about it before I understood the clue.  PECK = X; SQUEEZE = O; SMACK = X; and HOLD = O.

For want of a vee, this puzzle could have had all 26 letters.  If Gareth cared about that, he could have changed two words at 61- and 62-Down:  SOME to SELA and EXAM to EVAN.
