“SAY AGAIN?”

 :)
Office orders   REAMS [I was thinking “directives”]
One might go around on the patio   SPIT [I had the T and thought “gnat”]
Spanish ayes   SISI [“Spanish Eyes” is a pretty song]
Marxism extremes   EMS [Marxism]
See-thru wear?   SPECS [either the “thru” made me think a sheer blouse or I’m a dirty old man]
Theme: reading terms two ways
Understudy’s crime?   LEADPOISONING [long e]
Instrument with colored bands?   STRIPEDBASS [long a]
Compliment on a skillful asphalt job?   GOODEVENING [four syllables]
Anesthetist’s error?   WRONGNUMBER [silent b]
Fight among forest females?   DOESBATTLE [long o]
Telescope?   METEORSHOWER [long o]

 8)
Give ___to: okay   ANOD [The idiom really is “give the nod to.”  So I’d go with “A wink and ___.”]
Crotchety  SNARKY [that’s the British definition; in America it denotes sarcasm, not petulance]

 ???
First O, say   TIC [as in tic tac toe] crossed with Spot of “Spot” [TAG] was tough for me.  I don’t see how a tag is a spot.

 :(
Like some advanced research, briefly   POSTDOC [not buying it: it’s “post doctoral”]

RATING:   ;D ;D ;D Three grins = Excellent: Loved it; Two grins = Good: Enjoyed it; One grin = Satisfactory: A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = Unsatisfying: No fun
