Let "The Son's of Liberty " rise again. The taxing or fee for the NY Times Xword is an antiquated fee system!
Tea and Stamp Taxes seem to be equivalent to maintaining the Subscripitive necessity of the NYT!

Not sure I get the analogy.  The N.Y. Times is a business for profit.  They can charge a premium if they wish, and we don't have to pay.  There are other puzzles that are free.  I choose not to pay, and if others did not, I suppose The N.Y. Times puzzles would also be free.  As long as there's a market, there will be a price.
