I remember when trains and busses had leather straps, rather than rails, to hang onto [STRAPHANG].  I was too little to reach them, and by the time I grew, they had been replaced.  Speaking of public transportation, the IRT, BMT, and IND are subway lines in New York City.  How anyone outside of the city would know that is beyond me.    :)
