Answers that begin a clue question?
« on: July 19, 2018, 08:09:37 AM »
Can I use "Stock beginner" as a clue for the answer "joint" (which, of course, are two separate words--"joint stock.") Or can I only use "beginner" (meaning "what begins the word") for words or prefixes that are attached to the word--such as answer "over" for "overstock"? I know the later is OK but not sure about the former.

I think the "Stock beginner" as a clue would imply that you're looking for a prefix, as you mentioned in your "overstock" example. You might use "Word before ..." as a clue, but I think for a common phrase (which I'm not sure JOINT STOCK is), you would usually see "___ stock" as a clue.

Thanks for answering. I'll go with "____ stock."
