THEME:   Two-word compounds each word of which can be modified by MAN

GOOD ONES:
Title:  Man to Man
Official arachnid of South Carolina   WOLF SPIDER [two fictional characters]
Tipped toppers  HATS [almost non-existent today]
Stroll around the station?   SPACE WALK [and a theme answer]
Shout target  STAIN [the detergent, not the call]
Boat trailer   WAKE [water, not the hitched carrier]
Crack gp.?   DEA [crack as a noun can mean a drug; as an adjective it can mean excellent]

BTW:
Healthy bar creations   SALADS [the word healthful has gone the way of hat-tipping]

Louisville Slugger material   ASH [the wood that was once exclusive for baseball bats but now shared with the weaker maple]

ESA is not used in English

All-bark, no bite type   PAPER TIGER [a paper tiger is a metaphor for an argument that is easily refuted; an "all-barkā€¦ type" is a thing that appears threatening but is not]

RATING:    ;D ;D
Three grins = Loved it; Two grins = Enjoyed it; One grin = A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = Not much fun
