THEME:   Missing -EN in random phrases

GOOD ONES:

Sales pitch for an Austrian pistol?   GLOCK SPIEL [glockenspiel, the instrument]
Digital jewelry   TOE RING [so why was I thinking some computer term I never heard of?]
A lock may be in one   KNOT [as in a lock of hair, not keys, etc. as I first thought]
Took off to team up   ELOPED [clever way to put it --- could've involved clothes ... guess not]
Key for Satie?  ILE [not "locks": key or quay is an island: Erik Satie was French]
Back biter?   MOLAR [note spelling]

BTW:
For BUNS BURNER, rather than a poor cook, I might've gone with "Hotseat."

Weather reporters   MAPS [only in the meerest sense as they are the reports drawn by computers run by weather reporters]

Maker of Veriton compters   ACER [first time I've seen ACER correctly defined (wonder if Gail reads this space)]

"Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" band, briefly   CCR [big fan of Creedence, but less so of this song; I'd go with "Green River" for its classic sound and wonderful lyric]
   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5V9nK7-OkM

RATING:    ;D ;D ;D
Three grins = Loved it; Two grins = Enjoyed it; One grin = A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = Not much fun

Merl Reagle gives us "The Latest Ice Cream Flavors" in today's Los Angeles Times crossword:

Reporter's favorite ice cream flavor? JUICYSCOOP
President's favorite ice cream flavor? UNIMPEACHABLE
Football player's favorite ice cream flavor? SUPERBOWLSUNDAE
Valedictorian's favorite ice cream flavor? SMARTCOOKIE
Animator's favorite ice cream flavor? ELMERFUDGE
(Get it? "Be vewwy quiet---I'm hunting wabbits.")
Car restorer's favorite ice cream flavor? CHERRYCONDITION
(But I think INMINTCONDITION would have been better.)
Actress Aniston's favorite ice cream flavor? JENANDBERRIES
(A theme answer which is also a spoonerism---Very clever!)

Reagle also used Roman numerals (VII), French (CIEL, EGOISTE, ETIENNE), Latin (URBI for "____ et Orbi [papal address]"), portions of words (FERRO, NEO, SICLE) and several over-used three-letter words (AIM, ANT, APE, ASH, ELI, IDE, IMP, LEI).   "Noticeable navel" was OUTIE. Is Reagle trying to say that an innie is not noticeable? With the exception of Barbara Eden, who was not allowed to show her navel on the 1965-70 tv series I Dream Of Jeannie, aren't all navels noticeable?
