THEME:   letter H substituted for by IT in common phrases creating odd phrases
   
GOOD ONES:    
Cheesecake ingredient?   GAM [WWII vintage term for leg; cheescake pix were pin-ups.  Rita Gam was a minor actress then.]   
Classics, e.g.   IPODS [I-Pod Classic]   
It may be seen on a dog   CHILI [after I exhaused collars and fleas I thought food]   
Third degrees?   PHD'S [sometimes they give you the third degree to get the degree]   
   
BTW:   
Swing both ways and literal hint to {theme}   SWITCH HIT [The idea of the theme makes sense --- simply substitute IT for H.  And IT plus H is indeed an anagram for HIT.  What I don't get is the clue:  in what way is HIT switched?  For example:   
   SITE DEVIL > SHE DEVIL, but the word HIT is missing and so cannot be switched.  "Split HIT" to SWITCH HIT" might be accurate but senseless.
