Best of luck with your project.  Here are some features I think you may want in order to make this interesting and usable as a web application:

Word list support
Clue database
Import/export to .puz format
Print
Social features: chat, forum, shared word lists, collaboration support
Auto fill
Predefined grids
Rebus support

I've added printing and an export to a .txt that can be read by Across Lite and converted to .puz, but I've got more work to do.  I appreciate the suggestions, they're all good ones!
