THEME:   last words of phrases begin with a word that can follow A-
   
GOOD ONES:    
In the future {& theme}   AHEAD [the initial A "heads" the theme word]   
Angler's equipment   FISHING ROD [placing A- before ROD yields A-ROD, the ball player]   
Hot wings did him in   ICARUS [maybe my favorite clue of the year; mythological Icarus flew too close to the sun and his wings melted]   
   
BTW:   
Run-down urban buildings   TENEMENTS [they don't have to be run-down, just in the poor part of town; the one I grew up in was new when in 1950 we moved in, near the City sewage treatment plant.]   
   
Zippo filler   BUTANE [a few are, but the ones you see in movies use lighter fluid, not gas]   
   
   
RATING: ;D ;D   
Three grins = Loved it; Two grins = Enjoyed it; One grin = A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = Not much fun
