To repeat what I said over at Diary of a Crossword Fiend, I thought that last entry was going to be PUTTIN' ON THE RITZ! :-)

Some hard entries for me (ILONA? SORIANO?) but the crosses made them pretty easy.

Thanks for the link; I laughed aloud --- again. [from left to right it was Frankenstein and his monster from Mel Brooks].

BTW, Ahimsa, it would help when referring to an entry if you gave the clue --- I don't remember your "Ritz" citation.

Oops, sorry about that! I usually give the clue and/or the number (e.g., 58A) but I forgot this time. I know that these things don't make sense without context.

At any rate, PUTTIN ON THE RITZ was my joking alternative for the puzzle's theme/reveal phrase (I'm never sure of the correct terminology) of A NIGHT ON THE TOWN. The clue was, "Celebration suggested by words that end answers to starred clues." (TOP HAT WHITE TIE TAILS)
