THEME:   meals with new meanings

GOOD ONES:
Group for jive fools?   TURKEY-CLUB
Quick swim in la mar?   FRENCH-DIP
GI unlikely to pass inspection   SLOPPY-JOE ["G.I. Joe"]
Reneged political funding   PULLED-PORK [a Southern dish mostly]
Last of the Mohicans?   ESS  [this kind of clue is becoming so popular that even this slowpoke got it right off]

BTW:
Parenthesis, e.g.   ARC [note singular spelling]

Hit the big leagues   GO-PRO [maybe, but there are many professional (paid players) leagues which are "minor" --- thus a minor-leaguer who hits the bigs does not GO PRO; he already is]

RATING:    ;D ;D
Three grins = Loved it; Two grins = Enjoyed it; One grin = A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = Not much fun
