THEME:   FIVE nursary rhyme characters---a difficult construction chore

GOOD ONES: none

BTW:
Uncle's mate   AUNT
rather pedestrian clue and typical of this and other early week puzzles ---  Yes, these puzzles are designed for neophytes and speed solvers, but as mentioned here last week, quick and easy need not be dull and boring.  For AUNT and easy clue might be "Em or Bee": at least there is a reference that entertains.  Too hard?  Try "Jemima or Em" or easier yet "___ Jemima".
Yet, we get KNEEHOLE, a term I never use---and I build them.  And RAMJET is certainly not on the Dolch list.  Nor is OSPREY, ERRATA, or ALHIRT.  Alas, I believe in this I am fighting an uphill battle --- Sisyphean for the literati --- as I most certainly am in the following:

Ano Nuevo month   ENERO
   1.  ENERO is not used in our language --- ever.
   2.  ANO requires ~, which my keyboard does not allow to be used as an accent
   3.  If the solver should know enero, why not mes, which in this clue is oddly in English?

RATING:    ;D
Three grins = Loved it; Two grins = Enjoyed it; One grin = A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = Not much fun
