THEME:   Three 15-letter phrases defining STOUT
   
GOOD ONES:   
For the birds? + For the bees?   AVIAN & APIAN   
Not a good mark [twice]   CEE & DENT   
   
BTW:   
A convention of themes in Xwords is consistency, but one of the three theme entries is inconsistent in that it contains three words, the last of which is in appostion to previous word which in prose would require a comma.

Three grins = Loved it; Two grins = Enjoyed it; One grin = A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = Not much fun
