Clueless Anagrams

Raise your hand if you knew that Madden was an anagram for DEMAND.  I'll bet 95% of the solvers did not see the anagrams in these clever entries.  Gander is in fact IN the word Danger.

Without titles, it is often hard to send a message to the solver, and, as in this case, the best part of the puzzle may be lost.  (Why there are no titles escapes me, but that's another issue.)

In this puzzle, I would select 51-Down, DIRE, and clue it with "Ride anagram, and clue to the long answers in this puzzle."  Of course, ANAGRAM itself would be best if I could manage it.
